The Reincarnated Count's Daughter Is the Strongest as She Is Loved by the Spirits, Though She Is Only Wishing for Regular Romance!
Chapter 75
The remaining problem is the Regan family. It was quite a showdown earlier, but is this family really okay?
"You almost made our daughter miserable. Explain how this happened."
"...Let's discuss it when we get home."
"If we do that, you'll just say the house is my responsibility or you don't know what to say to our daughter, and delay it again. If this continues, I will leave with Irene. I'll divorce you!"
"If you do that, Irene won't be able to marry as a daughter of the count."
"Then she can become my foster daughter."
Marquess Corquette immediately interjected.
"I don't form factions, but I've always intended to support you. Yet you decided Irene's engagement without consulting me. It's very disappointing. I also knew about Irene and Elton."
"Th-that can't be..."
The count slumped into his chair, looking defeated. He reminded me of the many fathers I saw in my past life in Japan. My own father was similarly awkward. Up until elementary school, we had some interaction at sports events, but in middle school, those opportunities disappeared. Plus, we were three daughters. With him constantly busy at work, my mother and us daughters became very close. My father didn't know what to say to teenage girls, which only widened the gap due to his blunt manner of speaking. When I got a job and moved out, he found out just before I left, got angry, and we ended up fighting.
Thankfully, my youngest sister, who excelled at communication, started having drinks with him after my older sister and I left home. Watching quiz shows together, they created opportunities for conversation. Our mother joined, and they enjoyed it so much that my father started coming home earlier. I loved the family parties we had whenever I visited.
We had a good relationship, I think. But then, the middle daughter died in her thirties, unmarried. Even after ten years, I sometimes feel guilty.
When I think back, I feel bad towards my current parents. They've treated me so well, yet I'm still clinging to my past life. But it's not that I want to go back. I'm Diadora now. I love this world, the spirits, my parents, and my brothers.
So, I think the Count and Irene should talk. If he's a father who genuinely wants to be close to his daughter, this could be a turning point for their relationship. But there's also a risk that the relationship could become irreparable.
"Diadora-chan."
"Dia? They're calling you."
Lost in thought, Chris onii-sama shook my shoulder.
"What's wrong?"
"I was wondering about becoming a foster daughter."
"That's not something we should interfere with."
That's true. Only the family knows the family issues.
"Diadora-chan."
"Yes, what is it?"
When I turned around with a slightly annoyed look, Bart, who had called me, took a step back.
"Um, I have something to ask."
"After everything you've done, I have no intention of talking to someone who hasn't even apologized to Irene."
"Irene, Irene. Were you only doing business with us because of Irene? Didn't you appreciate our milk?"
"We don't mix friendship with business. Are you mocking me?"
I no longer hesitated since everyone here knew my true nature.
"Do you know how many people are involved in producing one product? We've been considering ending the contract after this season. But the final decision was because we found you untrustworthy. No matter how good the product, we can't do business with someone we can't trust."
"Your milk is indeed delicious, but the cost is too high due to the effort involved. It doesn't fit our future use."
Chris onii-sama raised one finger.
"We're expanding our focus beyond tourism. Only coastal towns profit from tourism. We want to enrich Berisario by developing other industries. And you're untrustworthy. Is that enough reason for you?"
If we bought milk from far away for chocolate production, it would cost more time and money. The Fairy Company bought a lot of cheese, so local ranchers expanded their businesses and hired more people. This allowed us to secure milk locally and set up chocolate workshops in neighboring towns, creating more jobs. If other regions can profit from our products like tomato ketchup and milk, we should help our people profit from chocolate.
"A different business?"
"I can't tell someone who'll immediately talk about it elsewhere."
"Ugh."
This guy is still talking about milk. I understand it's important as a major source of income for the territory. But that's not the issue right now.
"So, what do you plan to do about this situation?"
"Huh?"
"Your lies are tearing your family apart. Shouldn't you think more about your family?"
The Countess continued arguing with the count, while Irene talked with Suzanna. Father and the others seemed to be discussing their response to the Moulding Marquis. They weren't directly involved with the Regan family.
"The territory is my father's responsibility..."
"You're the heir, right?! And what about apologizing to Irene?"
"I... I'll apologize later."
This guy is hopeless. He really only cares about cows.
"Irene, you might find it hard to stay in the dormitory. Why don't you stay at Suzanna's dorm for the rest of the term?"
Marquess Corquette, who seemed to have been listening to our conversation, suggested to Irene.
"Bart, you can stay in our dorm for the rest of the year, but next year, you'll have to go elsewhere."
"What! Why?"
"After causing such a problem by deceiving your father and sister, and showing no remorse, I can't keep you in our dorm. Count Regan, tomorrow is a school holiday. You should talk with your family thoroughly. I'll join if necessary."
"...Thank you. Please do."
"Your second son is entering the academy next year, right? He can join our dorm."
Marquess Corquette was essentially suggesting they disinherit Bart and make the second son the heir. Bart, with his sole focus on cows, wouldn't be able to handle the responsibilities of a lord or social engagements. He might be happier not becoming the lord.
"Um, this might be too late, but I had trouble finding it."
Mia entered the room, carefully holding a thin piece of cloth. She had been gone since escorting Suzanna.
"Lady Diadora, I'm sorry for taking it without permission, but I thought Count Regan should see it."
"What is it?"
"It's the shawl Irene gifted to Lady Diadora."
"Oh, I see. No problem at all. Please show it to them."
"Yes."
Mia spread out a light lavender-gray shawl where Count Regan, his wife, and Bart could see it. It was beautifully embroidered with a wave and water drop design using shades of blue and green, centered around a lapis lazuli color. The colors appeared different when the cloth was spread out and when naturally draped, adding a dynamic charm.
When spread out, it was a work of art. It could be hung on a wall for display. Irene had designed it all from the pattern to the color selection.
"It's beautiful, isn't it? Using the colors of the elemental kings responsible for each territory, Irene designed shawls for all her friends. Even professionals were amazed."
Count Regan, looking surprised, stared at the shawl before bowing his head to Irene, apologizing. Bart only gazed at the embroidery with a complicated expression. How he processes this and what conclusions he draws are up to him.
"I'll always listen to your stories, Dia. Feel free to talk to me anytime."
"Yes, Father."
"I'm glad, Dia. If you fall in love, let me know right away."
"......Fall in love?"
"I don't have anyone yet."
"You all need to learn to let go of your children and sister."
At Mother's words, the three men of our family simultaneously averted their gazes.
Marquess Corquette, Suzanna, and the Regan family went to Marquess Corquette's castle for further discussions, so we returned to our dorm soon after. Father complained, wanting to have dinner together since we were all there, but it wasn't appropriate for the noble siblings to be absent from the dorm for long right after school started.
Although Irene is only thirteen, her relationship with Elton will likely be treated as an engagement in two years. Involving two marquesses and a duke, it would be a big problem if they broke up later.
But she's still thirteen. What if their long relationship becomes monotonous, and they fall for other people? However, in this world, relationships aren't taken lightly.
I've never had a boyfriend. Many stories about mutual feelings and becoming a couple make it easy to fantasize, which I often did in my fan works. But the future beyond that is unknown to me. Imagining a life where flirtation is normal, like in anime or movies, embarrasses me.
How do you shift from casual conversation to a romantic atmosphere? In reality, you don't use lines from comics or dramas, right? How does a friend or acquaintance develop romantic feelings? I've met many handsome boys here, but just being handsome doesn't make me see a future with them, so I ended up being just friends.
Isn't it impossible? Can I find a fiancé by fifteen? I only have a little over four years left.
Wait, it's too early to panic. Every ten-year-old girl is inexperienced in romance. Ignoring my past life, my romantic skills are age-appropriate. ...I'm not lonely. I'm not crying. Chris onii-sama is fifteen and hasn't dated either. Alan onii-sama is focused on swordsmanship and only has my friends as close female friends.
Wait, isn't Berisario in trouble? What a weak point. But if all siblings are still single after graduating, it's okay if I'm single too!
