"The king's first child is a boy, so doesn't that significantly reduce the likelihood of Camille reclaiming his place as heir? Isn't this no longer a problem?"

"That's true, but..."

"I observed the others today, and he's the only one left. Bejaia and Starke are out of the question. Lilburn is a coalition of nations, so if the Fairy Princess were to form an alliance with one of them, it would risk destabilizing the balance of power. And as for the Duchamp Kingdom... you don't like the cold, do you?"

Ugh... Sorry for the petty reason. But the period after marriage is longer, so it's important to me!

"It seems there aren't any strong men left within the Empire. I can't entrust Dia to just anyone."

When did Father become such a supporter of Camille?! I knew Mother liked him, but now even Father? Did Mother convince him? He’s still completely under her thumb as always.

"In a gathering presided over by His Highness the Crown Prince and your elder brother, no student could find the courage to speak up."

"That's unacceptable. Even if they’re not yet adults, there were students from the higher education courses in attendance."

Alan's opinion was reasonable, but it didn't seem to change Father's stance. But seriously, with Gaio and Cyprian being so intense, spirit kings everywhere, and me being a borderline monster... Even if they were told to do something, I feel sorry for them.

"Camille is supposed to come here the day after tomorrow, right? Let’s ask him to stop by the castle before he heads to the palace so we can discuss the plans."

"That sounds like a good idea."

"Huh? The day after tomorrow is so soon!"

That's way too rushed. The engagement is set for when I turn fifteen, so there's no need to hurry, right? Getting engaged still doesn't feel real to me. Everyone around me is getting excited, but I'm having trouble keeping up. And Camille told me to wait! Rushing might cause problems for him too.

"Is there an issue?"

"I wouldn't say it's an issue, but... there’s no need to rush. Camille seems to be in danger because of me."

"That’s all the more reason to hurry. A formal engagement would establish a stronger cooperation between Berisario and Luftanen."

An engagement isn't just a personal matter; it’s about connecting families. In our case, it also influences the relationship between countries. Can I handle this? Will I still like Camille when I turn eighteen and get married? Ugh, having an older mindset is holding me back. Seeing failed marriages all over the internet and TV made me cautious. I was happier being alone.

"Dia, are you hesitating?"

"What? Don't you like Camille?"

I like Camille, but I don’t think I’m capable of a burning romance like in novels. Even if we don’t meet for over a month, I'm quite fine, probably because I'm busy too. I do want to see him, but then I end up questioning myself, like, 'Wait, are Camille and I dating? Do we like each other?' and getting lost from there.

"Now that you mention it... When was the last time you and Camille had a proper conversation?"

Mother's question made me tilt my head. What does she mean by "proper conversation"?

"Um, when I visited Luftanen, I think?"

"That long ago?"

"Camille's busy, so we usually only talk briefly between his business meetings. Even when he comes to the Empire, he leaves right away most of the time."

"Elder Brother would be furious if he knew."

But Camille is busy with the reconstruction of West Island, increasing cacao production on South Island, and assisting the king, right? It can’t be helped that he's so occupied.

"What kind of country requires a child underage to help the king?"

"Brother also..."

Alan swallowed his words under Mother's piercing gaze.

"Chris regularly meets with Suzanna in the capital."

That doesn’t surprise me at all. As his sister, I know how diligent my brothers are. But it is unexpected that Mother knows. Chris wouldn't report it, so is she hearing it from Suzanna?

"Dia, you need time to speak with Camille properly. With teleportation magic, distance isn't an excuse."

"That's true. Let’s discuss this the day after tomorrow."

"Tell him that Douglas has gathered all elemental spirits, and he’ll come running."

Who’s side is Alan on, exactly? He's clearly just enjoying this like it’s not his problem.

"Oh, Dia, I wanted to ask you about Aldert."

Alan's words reminded me. Reporting this is important.

"Aldert? That man connected to Pendelus?"

"Connected to Pendelus?"

Father and Mother looked puzzled, so I told them about seeing Aldert twice in Luftanen. I hadn't even exchanged greetings with him, yet he said things like, 'I finally met you' or 'We finally crossed paths.'

"And who else have you reported this to? Did you tell Chris or His Highness the Crown Prince?"

Father’s question made me think, and I shook my head.

"I haven't told anyone yet."

"Not even Camille? He was right beside you."

Alan sounded exasperated, and my parents seemed shocked. But, you see...

"Camille is busy, and he's already in danger because of me. I didn't want to burden him with extra worries."

"Dia... You truly don't understand."

Mother sighed deeply, clearly disappointed.

"You need to talk to him tomorrow."

"But..."

"If you don’t, I will."

Is this really that important? I can handle being targeted.

Camille and I usually meet for business with the company, or he suddenly arrives and leaves just as abruptly. So I never dressed up to meet him. But as a high-ranking noble’s daughter, even my casual home dresses are carefully prepared by the maids every morning. I never look shabby, at least.

"As expected, Lady Dia, you look good in any color. The green dress matches the hair accessory perfectly."

Dressing up to meet Camille feels like going on a date, which is embarrassingly awkward. Wouldn't he be surprised if I put in this much effort? Is this okay?

"As expected of Cynthia. You know exactly what suits Lady Dia. I'll have to take notes!"

"Nelly, don’t overdo it..."

"What are you talking about? Camille-sama is adjusting his schedule just to meet you earlier. It's only natural to make yourself look nice."

"To think that baby Dia is now dressing up for her lover..."

Cynthia has been taking care of me since the day I was born, but there's no need to get emotional over me meeting a boy. They were both hyped up in different ways, so I felt relieved when Rex came to get me.

Rex and Brad escorted me to the room. Alan was standing by the door, which was open.

"Brother, Dia is here."

Is Chris inside? What were they discussing?

"Good luck."

"We’ll see you later anyway."

"Ah, that’s right."

Chris and Camille were smiling as they talked. They seem to get along well, don’t they? When Chris stood up and left the room, he noticed me and gave me a look-over from head to toe before meeting my eyes again.

"You didn’t have to go that far to look nice for him."

His disapproving tone somehow reassured me. He’s the same as always.

"Dia always looks cute."

"I know that, but there’s no need to try even harder," he muttered.

"I appreciate the compliment, but you two are blocking the way."

My two brothers were in front of me, with the attendants behind me. They’re all tall, so it felt like being surrounded by walls.

"You need to get going to the palace. Don't hold up time here."

Camille came up behind them, looking between my brothers to meet my eyes. He widened his eyes in surprise.

"... You look cute, and it suits you well. If you dressed up just to see me, I’m happy, but there’s something important we need to talk about first."

"You’re saying all of it, aren’t you?"

"Are you mad? Why?"

"You can tell I'm angry just from that?"

Chris was genuinely shocked, but his expression never darkened with me. His voice was also a bit lower than usual.

"Chris brought up Aldert so you wouldn't forget to mention it."

"Ugh..."

"Brother, let's head out."

"Brad, Rex, if Camille gets too close to Dia, knock him out."

"If we did that, we’d end up getting knocked down by the lady herself."

Rex gently pushed me inside, and Brad waited for Camille to enter before closing the door.

An unhandled error has occurred.
