Chapter 150

**Author Notes:**
In the activity report, I’ve shared details about Volume 3 and unveiled the cover illustration. Even if you don’t read the text, the illustration is lovely, so please take a look!

The room we were in was considered special among the guest rooms. It offered the most beautiful view from the window, and in the Berisario castle, this room was recognized by everyone working there as a place reserved for important guests of our family. The large window that covered one side of the wall opened onto a wide roof balcony, with a stunning view of the blue sea beyond. Since the castle was on top of a hill and we were on the third floor, there was nothing to obstruct the view. The atmosphere created by the wide balcony and large window might be similar to the architecture in Luftanen.
There was a small round table and chairs positioned to overlook the view outside, and I thought we might enjoy some tea there. However, the butlers guided me instead to the sofa set at the center of the room, where Camille and Chris-niisama had been talking earlier. Brad subtly guided Camille and me to sit side by side on the sofa, so I took that as a cue and glanced around the room. Near the wall, Edgar stood quietly, as if he were a borrowed cat trying not to draw any attention.
“Forgive me for speaking out of turn, but may I have a moment of your time?”
As soon as we sat down on the sofa, Brad knelt between the chairs and started to speak from across the table.
“Why don’t you sit in a chair?”
“Yeah, it’s fine,” Camille said.
“No, this will do just fine,” Brad insisted.
Camille didn’t seem to mind, but Brad remained as serious as ever. Despite Camille being a foreign duke and therefore an important guest, Brad, a commoner and a butler, speaking up of his own accord could typically be seen as a breach of decorum. Yet Camille didn’t seem to care about such things, and by now, they were quite familiar faces to each other.
“Is this about Dia?”
“It’s about both of you.”
“If you’re saying it, then it must be something important for Dia. Let’s hear it.”
Listening to the conversation between Camille and Brad was making me uncomfortable. I found myself adjusting on the sofa repeatedly.
“I’m married with children now, but before I married my current wife, I was rejected by several women. Since I was an adventurer, I often had to leave town and couldn’t stay in touch during assignments.”
Why was Brad suddenly talking about his personal life? And why about his romantic history?
“Even though I was busy, I would make sure to come back to town whenever I could and meet with my girlfriend. Even if it was just for a short while, seeing her face made me happy and gave me the motivation to work hard again.”
Camille nodded along repeatedly.
“Is that really how it is?”
Like when he brought me the hair ornament, Camille often left immediately after visiting. I always thought that if he was so busy, he should rest instead. But maybe, for him, seeing my face was more important than I realized.
“But from the woman’s perspective, that kind of arrangement apparently builds up dissatisfaction.”
“Huh?”
“Women enjoy preparing for their next date after making plans with their partner. The time spent getting dressed up for the occasion is also meaningful to them...”
Stop it—don’t look at me all at once like that! Also, why am I surrounded by men with no other women around? Ah, I suppose it’s because I’m the Fairy Princess and need constant protection, which requires guards capable of more than just serving. And with my involvement in the Company’s affairs, regular maids couldn’t handle it all. But where were Gemma and Nelly? Maybe Chris-niisama had them removed because they were too biased towards Camille? Chris-niisama says he’s given up, but he talks to Camille so amicably, and yet, he does things like this. Is this some sort of complex male behavior?
“If you suddenly show up when she’s not dressed up and then disappear when she wants to see you, you’re failing as a boyfriend,” Brad concluded.
What was I supposed to say to that? Poor guy?
“But don’t you think Dia-sama would be happier if she had time to dress up like today?”
“Huh? I don’t really mind. You’ve seen me in my casual clothes many times already, and wouldn’t you be put off if I suddenly started dressing up all the time?”
The simultaneous look of disappointment from all three of them was not appreciated. Why was Camille even in on this?
“I wouldn’t be put off—I’d be delighted.”
“A man who’s put off by that doesn’t truly love you,” Brad declared.
“Right, I wouldn’t be put off,” Camille agreed.
Both Brad and Camille leaned forward, passionately expressing their opinions, leaving me no choice but to nod along. Rex was trying to hide his laughter by turning away and covering his mouth.
“But Dia-sama, you’re cute even in casual clothes, and you don’t even need makeup. In fact, if you were too beautiful, like at the recent academy tea party, the other boys would be glancing at you, and it’s just annoying.”
“Oh right, that was supposed to be a tea party,” I muttered.
With Gaio, the Starke affiliates, and the Spirit Kings being so intense, I hadn’t remembered anyone else’s face.
“And besides, you’re always so proactive, but you never come to Luftanen yourself.”
“Well, I’d feel like I was imposing,” I replied.
“Imposing on whom? Everyone around me would be thrilled. We’ve already completed a mansion for you there, and I’ve been hoping you’d visit at least once.”
A mansion just for me!? That crown prince—or rather, king—he really built a mansion near the store!?
“In your case, you don’t even need an entry permit for North and South Island. If you bring someone with you, their paperwork can be processed at the mansion.”
“Th-that’s way too much...”
“Why? It just shows how much Luftanen wants you to visit.”
It’s still different from casually visiting a friend’s house. The stakes are much higher when it’s your boyfriend’s place. Camille must be quite something, making frequent trips to Berisario despite Father and my brothers being there, and even balancing half his work at the Company.
“Besides, the Master always says it’s important to tell your partner you love them every day.”
“Rex!” I cried out.
What are you suddenly saying?!
“Lady Nadia usually laughs it off, saying she already knows, but she’s always so happy, and Gemma claims that such words make women even more beautiful,” Rex explained.
“I see. So you say ‘I love you’ to your girlfriend every time you see her?” I asked.
“I’m single, so...” Rex responded.
“You said you’d always stay by my side. When you get a girlfriend, I’ll be sure to confirm that with her!”
“Noooo...”
Hey, butler, learn from Brad! What’s with that attitude?
“It’s not a problem. Camille-sama has been calling you ‘cute’ as naturally as breathing.”
“That’s true,” Rex agreed.
“Alright, you two should leave now. We don’t have much time.”
“Oh, right. We need to have a long talk about why you didn’t mention seeing Aldert twice,” Camille interjected.
Ugh, I’ve dug my own grave. I had forgotten about that.
“Then, we’ll take our leave,” Brad said.
Brad and Rex, who were so good at reading the mood at times like this, withdrew to the walls. As soon as it was just the two of us, Camille’s spirit beast appeared in its small form and began casting multiple layers of soundproofing magic around us. In response, my own spirit beast joined in, adding more layers of protection.
“Stop it, we don’t need so many layers,” I protested.
Of course, my butler and Edgar, who had accompanied Camille, were still in the room. They were just out of sight.
“Should we move over there? Let’s talk while looking at the sea,” I suggested.
But when I tried to stand, feeling uneasy under Camille’s silent gaze, he shook his head.
“So? Why didn’t you tell me?” Camille asked.
“Well, you didn’t tell me about the threats to your life, did you?”
I shifted away from him and sat down again, reaching for my teacup while staring straight ahead. I felt uneasy looking at him, so I tried to keep him out of my line of sight. Still, I could feel Camille’s intense gaze on me, even from the corner of my eye.
“It’s because... I’m fine,” he replied.
“I’m fine too. There’s no other young lady more resilient than me,” I countered.
“Still, it’s worrisome,” he pressed.
“Do you think I wouldn’t be worried about you?”
When I shot back, he looked genuinely surprised.
“Why are you so surprised?” I asked.
“Well... I have Shiro on loan from Lady Ruri, and I have my spirit beast. Whenever someone tries to approach, they’re dealt with swiftly. My guards are busy capturing and interrogating intruders, but I’m perfectly fine,” he explained.
“Then so am I,” I insisted.
“But you have no experience in combat, right? Could you really defend yourself when it matters? And there are people around you who can’t fight
—important friends of yours. Nicodemus and Starke would stop at nothing to get to you,” he warned.
A chill ran down my spine, and I quickly set down my teacup and rubbed my arms.
